Seven Reasons I Became a Minister

So they went over to him and asked:

  • Who brought you here?
  • What are you doing in this place?
  • What is keeping you here?” (Judges 18:3, HCSB).

It is often therapeutic, directive, and beneficial to pause to reflect for a moment concerning the why behind what we do. This lesson caused me to do just that.

There are at least seven reasons why I became a minister. Read more »

The Importance of a Name – Luke 1:13

Such a day of contrasts it proved to be!  On the one hand, Zacharias was faithfully discharging his duties as priest that day, offering incense upon the altar in the Holy Place at the Temple.  Nothing much seemed different about the day, nothing extraordinary had happened as he carefully did what countless other priests had done for so long.  In fact, for hundreds of years this practice had been maintained by the Levitical priesthood without any audible or visible presence from heaven at all.  These years had been known as the “silent years,” time during which the Lord God had not answered the petitions of the Israelites, whether by the voice of a prophet or by any supernatural manifestation of His presence and power. Preach the Word

“But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching.” Titus 1:3

It’s too long or too short, too loud or too soft, too deep or too light, too fast or too slow. Either the preacher jumps around like a jackrabbit or stands there like a tree trunk, sometimes a dead one at that. Either he massacres the English language or sounds like a walking thesaurus. As delicate and respectful as we try to be, we all have our take on preaching in general. Some preachers, we think, choke us with too much scripture, while others botch the one verse they do quote. Some tell too many stories, others too few. Some say amen after every sentence and others come across like slick professionals. But God never intended for preaching to be critiqued by human oratorical standards. Read more »

Working Together on the King’s Team

“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common” (Acts 4:32).

Teamwork means many people become one. They come together to work toward a common goal.

When David wanted to face the giant, he proclaimed, “Is there not a cause?” (1 Samuel 17:29). A team working together will accomplish more than if each person was working on his own (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). When a group of people come together to form a team, each person brings his strengths and weaknesses.  As we work together our strengths complement someone else’s weaknesses.  We use our skills to compliment the overall effort of the team. Planning for the Future

Planning is defined as an aim, intention, purpose or something that is considered in advance.

Ecclesiastes 3:1:- states, “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the sun.” From this verse we learn that there is time and plan of God for everything that happens to us here on the earth.

Romans 8:28:”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God to them who are called according to his purpose”  – (PLAN).

Why did God make the sun?

Because it was His plan to make the distinction between the day and night (Genesis 1:16).
